Mobile Mechanic FAQs

Straight answers about what we can do at your home or workplace, how quotes work and where we cover.

How a mobile mechanic works

What is a mobile mechanic?

A mobile mechanic is a vehicle technician who travels to you instead of asking you to bring the car to a workshop. We carry tools and test equipment to your home, workplace or another safe spot, then diagnose, service or repair the car there, subject to the suitability of the job and location.

Can a mobile mechanic come to my home?

Yes. Most of our work takes place on driveways and residential streets, as long as there’s a level, safe surface and room to work round the car. A busy road or steep slope can rule a job out, so tell us where the car is parked when you get in touch.

Can a mobile mechanic repair my car at work?

Often, yes. We can work in a workplace car park if your employer or the site owner is happy for us to be there and the space is safe. Check permission before booking, and let us know about any barriers, height limits or restricted parking so we can plan the visit.

Are there jobs a mobile mechanic can’t do?

Yes. Some work needs a garage ramp, an engine crane, wheel alignment equipment or welding kit, and a poor surface can rule out otherwise simple jobs. We’ll tell you honestly if yours falls into that group, because arriving to find it can’t be done safely helps nobody.

Repairs and servicing

Can mobile mechanics perform full car services?

Yes. A full car service can usually be done on a driveway or in a suitable car park, covering the oil, filters, fluid levels and a detailed safety inspection. Give us the make, model, mileage and last service date so we can bring the right parts and oil for your engine.

Can a mobile mechanic replace brake pads?

Yes, brake pads and discs are often well suited to a mobile repair, provided the car is on firm, level ground. If you hear grinding, or the pedal feels soft or sinks towards the floor, don’t drive the car. Leave it parked and tell us what it’s doing.

Can a mechanic diagnose an engine warning light?

Yes. We read the stored fault codes, then test the suspect parts, because a code shows where to look rather than which part has failed. If the light is flashing or red, or the car has lost power, stop somewhere safe and don’t keep driving it to an appointment.

Can a mobile mechanic replace a car battery?

Yes. Battery replacement is usually a straightforward mobile job, and we can test the battery and charging system first so you aren’t buying one you don’t need. Stop-start cars may need a specific battery type, and some need it registered to the car, so send us your make and model.

Can a mobile mechanic fix an overheating car?

Often, yes. Thermostats, water pumps, radiators and many leaks can be dealt with on site, subject to access and the location. Don’t drive an overheating car, and never open the radiator or expansion tank cap while the engine is hot. Let it cool for at least 30 minutes and call us.

Can a mobile mechanic replace a cam belt?

On many cars, yes, though access varies by engine, so we’ll confirm once we know the make, model and engine size. Some engines use a chain rather than a belt. The water pump is often changed at the same time, and the interval is set by the manufacturer’s schedule.

Do mobile mechanics prepare cars for MOT tests?

Yes. We check the items that commonly cause problems, such as lights, tyres, brakes, suspension and warning lights, then repair what we can on site. We don’t carry out the MOT test itself, because that must be done at an approved test centre. Send us any previous failure or advisory sheet.

Booking and quotes

How much does a mobile mechanic cost in Essex?

It depends on the car, the job, the parts needed and how easy the work is to reach, so we don’t quote a fixed figure without those details. Tell us your make, model, the problem and your postcode, and we’ll give you a quote for that specific job.

How do I request a mobile mechanic quote?

Use the contact form, call us or send a WhatsApp message with your name, vehicle details, postcode and a short description of the problem. A photo or a video of the noise can help. We’ll come back to you with the next step and a quote for the work.

What information should I provide when booking?

Give us the registration, make, model, year and engine size, plus the mileage if the job is a service. Describe the symptoms, any warning lights and any recent work. Tell us where the car is parked, whether it can be moved, and whether the surface is level and safe.

Cars and coverage

Can a mobile mechanic work on all car makes?

Please ask us with your make and model before booking. Whether we can take on a job depends on the car, the work involved and the tools or parts it needs, so we’d rather check your specific vehicle than make a blanket promise. Include the engine size and year if you can.

Which areas of Essex do you cover?

We cover Brentwood, Billericay, Basildon and Wickford in Essex, plus Romford, Hornchurch and Upminster in Havering on the Essex border. We also travel to East Ham and Ilford in East London. If you’re nearby but not listed, send us your postcode and we’ll let you know whether we can help.
