Mobile Car Diagnostics in Essex
Engine light on, limp mode, or a fault that comes and goes? We bring diagnostic equipment to your home or workplace across Essex and East London and trace what is actually causing it.

What a diagnostic check actually tells you
A modern car is run by a network of control units watching sensors for the engine, gearbox, ABS, airbags and more. When a reading falls outside its expected range, the unit stores a fault code and may put a warning light on the dash.
A fault code is a starting point, not an answer. A code naming an oxygen sensor can mean the sensor has failed, but it can also come from a wiring fault, an air leak or a fuelling problem. Swapping parts on the strength of a code alone is how people spend money and keep the light.
Proper diagnostics means reading the codes, looking at live data with the engine running, then testing the suspect circuit or part. It matters for your MOT too: an engine management light showing a malfunction is a major fault on most petrol cars first used from 1 July 2003 and diesels first used from 1 July 2008.
Why proper fault finding pays off
Tested before replaced
Codes are checked against live data and physical tests before we recommend any part.
The car stays put
A car in limp mode doesn’t have to limp across town to reach a garage.

How we trace a fault
- 01
Listen to the symptoms
When does it happen, hot or cold, at what speed? Those details narrow the search before any tool is plugged in.
- 02
Read the stored codes
We connect to the diagnostic port and read the systems involved, separating current faults from old, historic ones.
- 03
Check live data
With the engine running we watch sensor readings to see what the control unit is seeing and whether it makes sense.
- 04
Test and advise
We test the wiring, connectors or part in question, then explain the likely cause and quote for the repair.
When to contact a mechanic
Get in touch when a warning light stays on, comes back after being cleared, or arrives with a change in how the car drives. Even when the car feels fine, a stored fault can point to something that costs more if ignored, such as a misfire damaging the catalytic converter.
A flashing engine light often means a misfire, so ease off and stop when it is safe. Contact us with the make, model and what the car is doing.
If a red warning light comes on, or the brakes or steering feel wrong, stop as soon as it is safe and don’t drive on until the car has been checked.
Why diagnostics suit a home visit
We see the car where the problem shows up, and you aren’t nursing a sick engine along the A127 to reach a garage. Most reading and testing can be done on a driveway or in a car park, in Brentwood, Basildon and elsewhere in Essex. Some faults need a road test, or a ramp to reach wiring under the car, and we will tell you if yours does. All work is subject to the suitability of the job and location.
Common questions
How much does a mobile diagnostic check cost?
It depends on the car, the system involved and how much testing the fault needs. A clear stored code is quicker to follow up than an electrical fault that only appears now and then. Tell us the make, model and symptoms and we will give you a quote for your car.
Can you just clear the warning light?
We can clear a code, but on its own that rarely fixes anything. If the cause is still there the light will usually return, sometimes within a few miles. Clearing a code also wipes useful evidence, so we read and note it first, then look for what set it off.
Can I keep driving with the engine management light on?
That depends on how the car behaves. A steady light on a car driving normally may allow a short, gentle trip, but a flashing light, power loss, overheating or new noises are reasons to stop. Don’t leave it either way: a light showing a malfunction can fail the MOT.
